well it was the tainos and the king and queens fault because columbus landed his troops on the island to put up a refuge and the tainos killed his men and than the tainos and colubus's men had a war but columbus us inocent because he was trying to be loyal and the king and queen were greedy for so much gold and columbus was trying to be loyal and yea :P

Well ,i think it was the king and queens fault for telling Columbus to even find Asia, but when they got back, the king and queen told them to come to America and take all of the riches, so they came to America, and killed/enslaved/mistreat the Taino people! REMEMBER: it is all of columbus' fault and the taino people!!!

My personal final verdict is that its queen Isabela and king fedanaid fault. True columbuses men actually did the killing but they were under a version of " upon pain of death" because if they disobeyed Columbus they would've gotten tourtured. And then again Columbus gave the order but he most likely he was doing the right thing because the system of empire said that only white christians were human. Also in that time the more property one owned the more secure you were; so slaves= property, and there were tons of "slaves" where he was. So the system is to blame?? Well everyone in Spain grew up in a world that valued private property and approved the use of violence to get it. Hence the violence and mistreatment of the Taino Indians.

Columbus the King and Queen are both guilty because columbus volunteered and the queen and king gave columbus criminals that killed a lot of tainos but they were in jail for a reason and the king and queen should have never released them. but also even if columbus' men weren't criminals the same things that columbus' men did would probably happen

All but the Tainos are guilty because they all could have stopped the murder and stopped mistreating them. The Tainos are not guilty because they are the victim, and we cant say that they could have fought back because we have to see that they didn't have any good long range weapons when Columbus and his men had guns and cannons. Also people say they could have outnumbered Columbus's men because there was millions of Tainos in America. Was is a big word hear. After this event happened there was only 200 Tainos left. Also they did not have the numbers because they where spread out across America. So therefore the Tainos where the only ones why where not guilty. 8/23/2018 03:28:50 pm

Mainly the King and Queen of Spain because they paid for Christopher Columbus' voyage and they could've told him to stop the enslaving, they could've punished him for his crime, but instead they did nothing about it. The king and queen of Spain made Christopher Columbus' act legal. Also after a while they finally discouraged him to stop enslaving the Taino, but they never punished him for his crimes, which had killed many. Really they didn't care about what Columbus did because all they wanted was money and as long as they were getting rich, they didn't care.

I don't think it was the King and Queen because they never set foot on the island. How could they know if the Taino's were bad people or not? And Columbus was supposed to find India, not the Caribbean islands, if he just found India, non of this would happen. But at the same time, the kin and queen should've done something to stop all the deaths.

Yes, but didn't Columbus' MEN actually kill the Indians? I think it should be Columbus' men because they could have said no. Besides, the Tainos couldn't really fight back when Columbus' men had all of the swords, guns, and better weapons.

I respectfully disagree with you. It was normal for people to enslave other people back then because no laws were enforced back then. Sure, it was never okay, but they were a civilization and they needed to conquer and gain gold in order to keep that civilization alive. If the Europeans didn't go conquer them, it was gonna happen eventually by someone else because everyone wanted more land. Queen Isabel and King Ferdinand also did order Columbus to treat the Tainos with respect even though he totally went against that. :)

I believe that King Ferdinand and Queen Isabella are guilty because they made all of the decisions. If they would've declined Christopher Columbus's multiple voyages to North America, then he only would've gone once instead of going multiple times to their island to take control of them. Plus, they never stopped Christopher Columbus from enslaving the Tainos when he brought them back to Spain. What happened to the Tainos would've never happened if the king and queen would've just declined the multiple trips Christopher Columbus requested.

Its not King Ferdinand and Queen Isabella's fault because in first place they didn't order them to be slaves. Columbus couldn't do it alone so played some men to help him. They never ordered Columbus to kill people they told him to go and look for new Islands and that's it. Back then there was no law that had any charges for what they stated. In the end we discouraged Columbus. Which meant to have lost Confidence or enthusiasm; dishearted. Colombous man tortured natives that didn't do something they were told. Suppose running away or didn't have gold dust. The King and Queen only ordered him to discover and claim new lands, not to tourture them. In conclusion Columbus and his men are the one to blame for the tragedy.

I think that the men is the most guilty because if they never fowled Columbus and stood up for the Tainos they would not have died. If it was Columbus who did it he would not be obeying Spain and could be punished with death, but that's one against a ton. In the mens' case it would a ton against a ton. Also if it was the system they would have no idea what is going on. But the men did and they most likely knew that it was wrong. It wouldn't be the queen and king because they didn't know that there was no more gold unless Columbus told them. But most likely they wouldn't know about that. But the men did know and they took Columbus's orders that came from Spain. So I think that the man would be most guilty.

First of all, the person in common for all the four voyages to the New World was Columbus(the same men didn't go every time). Second, the men came all this way from the other side of the ocean. They had fears, too. Columbus was in charge; he could do anything to them. Plus, the king and queen, who had the most authority, sent those men too, after Columbus told them there were many slaves there.

I believe that all parties involved are to blame. Colombus' men could have done the selfless thing and said no to colobus's orders even if faced with punishment. Colombus could have not given those orders to his men, and he could have left the tainos alone as a source of trade and help as they knew the islands better than him. Colombus could have been prevented from doing all these things had the king and queen stepped up and said no, but instead they funded and encouaged his exploration. The tainos, while not as advanced as the explorers, could have used their vast numbers to overpower the spaniards and keep them from doing anymore harm. Overall, there isnt a single person involved that is not guilty of the action.

I think that system was the most guilty because it had existed for centuries and it had influence all of the society into thinking it was all right. I think that the Queen and King are not gulit because they were just following the rules and they needed supplies for the war against the French and they were too busy to make new laws or even notice the situation at the Americas. Perhaps, yes they made that one law to allow Columbus' crimes legal but it was becuase they were dwindling in resources both human and goods. However, when the Taino's treatment did get awful, they pulled Columbus and his crew away from the Americas. Even though, The King and Queen did supply the ships used, they probably didn't have enough money to built them more efficient in order for the Tainos and some probaby did died in the ship trip to Spain. It was the Columbus's responsibility to warn the King and Queen about the ship situation. He could have warned that they brought slaves and than the King and Queen could have sent better ships, so the Tainos wouldn't have died over the seas. I think that the Queen and King and least guilty of this crime. The most guilty is Columbus, Columbus's men, and the Empire System. The most innocent is the Tainos.

Filip’s Argument: The King and Queen of Spain, also called Queen Isabella and King Ferdinand were without question, responsible for the death of the 3 million Tainos. To prove this, without them funding Columbus’s expedition, he would not have done any of the cruel things he did to the Tainos in The Americas. Without their money, Columbus couldn’t have set his plan to find the East Indies by sailing west. Really, Queen Isabella and King Ferdinand only cared about and wanted more wealth and more gold, so they didn’t care what Columbus did, as long as they got rich. The King and Queen didn’t order Columbus to kill the Tainos, but to find new land. On Columbus’s first journey, he returned with multiple captives to Spain, and the King and Queen rewarded him, instead of arresting him for kidnapping. If they declined his trips after his first voyage, nothing would have happened to the Tainos. So the King and Queen only encouraged Columbus more by rewarding him for these horrible acts. They are the ones that could have set a stop to this after Columbus’s first journey in the year 1476. They were the ones that made all the decisions and had the power to stop him at any time. They could have declined his multiple voyages to North America, and he wouldn’t have taken control of the Tainos. If they would have arrested Columbus for kidnapping, he would never have fought against the Tainos. Because of how greedy King and Queen of Spain were, they urged Columbus to continue doing what he was doing, so that they would only get richer. The consequence of this was the beginning of slavery of African American people.

I think that the System of Empire is the most responsible for the murder of thousands of Tainos Indians because this system was the cause that drove Queen Isabella to want more and more money. Colombus was driven by the funding of Queen Isabella and Columbus’ men were to follow his orders. So basically, this was kind of like a big chain of events that all worked together to create one awful event.

King Ferdinand and Queen Isabella are the most guilty on the Indies exploration. They are guilty because if they didn't send Columbus at all they wouldn't enslave the Tainos Indians. Also, if they didn't send Columbus on their mission, they would've stopped the torture of the Tainos Indians. If they didn't employ Columbus, then he wouldn't take the Tainos' property. For these reasons, King Ferdinand and Queen Isabella are the most guilty of the enslavement of the Tainos Indians.

King Ferdinand and Queen Isabella are not the most guilty people on the Indies exploration. They are not the most guilty because Columbus could've just got the gold himself, he didn't have to enslave people for it. They also aren't guilty because they said to claim the land, not to kill or torture any of the Indians. Columbus' men also could've just over-taken Columbus and stayed in the land. Then the Queen and King could think they're dead. For these reasons, The King and Queen are not guilty.

Columbus' Men are the most responsible for the death of the Tainos Indians. Even though Columbus ordered his men to enslave and/or kill the Tainos Indians, they could have done the right thing and just not killed or enslaved innocent human beings. Columbus' men did all the dirty work when one of the Tainos didn't deliver enough gold. Just because Columbus ordered them to commit the crime, that doesn't free them from the crimes that they committed. Therefore, these are the reasons why Columbus' men killed the Tainos Indians.

Columbus is the most responsible for the deaths of the Tainos. Columbus wanted and basically loved gold, he demanded it from the Tainos who were 14 years of age and older every three months or so. If they did not have his gold he would cut their hands off. Columbus shipped over 500 Tainos to Spain to be slaves. He left some Tainos so he told his men to help themselves, so they did which killed several hundred Tainos. Then he told his men to spread ¨terror¨ among the Tainos when he heard of a resistence. This is why Columbus is most responsible for the deaths of the Tainos.

Hailey believes that Columbus was the most responsible for the Tainos Indians, but here is why she is wrong. Someone may believe that Columbus is the most responsible because he ordered his men to commit the crime, but his men were the ones who actually did all the dirty work. Setting dogs on them and cutting off their hands when they didn't deliver enough gold, that's what Columbus told his men to do and that's what they did. Just because Columbus told them to kill and enslave them does not mean that they aren't guilty for the crimes.

Well, Columbus may have killed many Indians, however it was the King and the Queen who gave the orders. First, they hired and funded Columbus to go and discover the new land which means they were stealing land from people. They didn't really care what Columbus did as long as they got rich. When Columbus shipped the Tainos to Spain, the King and Queen could have stopped him. They did not and legalized every crime that Columbus committed. Finally, because they were the one who funded Columbus and were the boss, the King and the Queen were the most guilty for the death of the Indians.

I believe that the king and queen are to blame for the killing of millions of the Tainos natives. I believe that because the king and queen should have stopped funding Columbus for his voyages.the king and queen didn't stop him because they wanted to get rich. If they stopped funding him he couldn't go back which means he couldn't get any gold or riches to bring back to them. When Columbus got back from his first voyage, he had several natives. Instead of the king and queen punishing him for this they actually rewarded him. Lastly when they payed for Columbus for his voyages you didn't care what he did. As long as they got profit they didn't care what he did. That is why I blame the king and queen for the deaths of millions of the Tainos Indians.

Columbus's men are responsible for the murders of the Taìnos Indians. First, they followed Columbus’ orders to enslave and kill the Taìnos. They could have chosen not to follow Columbus’ orders and protected the Indians. Next, Colombus told his men they could “help themselves” to the remaining Indians. They enslaved and tortured even more Taìnos. Lastly, they were the ones who took the Indians back to Europe as slaves. They forced them to find gold and if not they hurt them. Although Columbus was the one who ordered them to, they could have chosen not to. Columbus alone could not have done all that harm. In conclusion, Columbus’ men were the ones who committed the crime and are guilty for the brutal deaths of the Taìnos Indians.

Columbus' men are the most responsible for the death of the Tainos natives. Even though Columbus ordered his men to enslave and kill the Tainos, they could have done the right thing and not follow Columbus' orders. Columbus' men did the dirty work when the Tainos did not work enough. With out Columbus' men there would be no crime.

Well Columbus gave his men orders, and the King and Queen of Spain used slave labor to farm and gather resources faster so they could become more wealthy then they were already. He did this because he wanted to become wealthy as well.

Columbus' men were the major people who killed the Tainos. they made Tainos 14 and older look for gold and everyone who didn't return after 3 months with the amount of gold Columbus wanted Columbus had his men their hands chopped off. They also shipped some of the Tainos back to Spain to work as slaves. They whipped the tainos when they didn't work hard. They killed the tainos when ordered. Columbus did not personally kill the slaves he just watched his men do that. he judged the gold amount the tainos brought.

King Ferdinand and Queen Isabella are the most guilty of killing the Tainos. Due to the fact that Columbus was funded by them and they could have stopped his acts of terror over the Tainos at any given moment. The King and Queen didn't care as long as they got to profit out of the expedition. Some people might say that Columbus is the most guilty of killing the Tainos but the King and Queen gave him funding for his exploration and were the ones giving the orders to take materials and labor back to Europe so they could profit more.

King Ferdinand and Queen Isabella didn't care for the Tainos and still they did not stop acts of terror, however Columbus was the most guilty because of how much tragedy he put to the Tainos and that's why they stayed out of the way they knew that they would not win the battle since Columbus had so many men.

I believe that the King and Queen are most responsible for the death of the Tainos Indians. They hired Columbus to go and "discover" the new land which means that he had stole land from the Tainos who have never bothered you. Then, when Columbus returned with captured Indians, you were guilty of kidnapping. He told you that he would make the Indians slaves and after he enslaved people, he killed hundreds of people. You could have punished Columbus for all of the crimes he has committed but you did nothing. Also, by not stopping Columbus for every crime he committed, you basically legalized every crime he committed.

Columbus is the most responsible for the deaths of the Tainos. First, when Tainos wanted to leave and be let go, he refused. Next he ordered his men to spread terror on the island so people would be afraid of them. Finally is the death numbers. When Columbus arrived at first there were 1 million to 3 million, but by the time of 1542 there were only 200 Tainos left. This is why Columbus is the most responsible for the deaths of the Tainos.

Columbus was responsible for the deaths of thousands of Tainos Indians. Columbus brought many slaves back to Spain. The King and Queen were only paying for his journey and strongly discouraged Columbus' decision to bring back slaves. Not only that, but Columbus ordered his men to spread terror among the Tainos when they started to fight back. Also, Columbus made the Tainos suffer and bring him gold. He did not care what he did, as long as he got his gold. Because the Tainos were fighting back, Columbus the killed many of the Tainos, causing the population of the Tainos to decrease.

I believe that Columbus was guilty of this these are my reasons. First kids 14 year old or older have to find gold in 3 months of the amount that Columbus wants if they do not make it he will cut there hand off. Then he would spread terror to the Tainos when there was rumor of resistance. After that they left and the population decrease to 3 million to 200 left. These are my reasons why Columbus is guilty.

I think that King Ferdinand (Ferdi) and Queen Isabella (Izzy) who killed the Tainos. Ferdi and Izzy didn't go out with swords and kill a the Tainos, but commanded Columbus to do the bloody work instead. Ferdi and Izzy wanted gold and land, and the Tainos sure had both. Plus the Tainos were not Catholic Christian, so that made Ferdi and Izzy mad (Because they were both Catholic Christian). So Ferdi and Izzy told Columbus to get some gold. And Columbus got gold by slaving the Tainos to get gold. And do to slavery and torture, the Tainos died. So in conclusion, King Ferdinand and Queen Isabella were responsible for the death of the Tainos.

The king and queen could be at fault but it would be Columbus because even though the king and queen sent him he could have just left the slaves and took the gold. Instead he had to take them to become slaves and terrorized them. Queen Isabella wanted them to be treated humanely but Columbus did not.

I think that Columbus is the most guilty of them all (not that anyone else was innocent). First, he ordered the attacks and kidnappings of the Tainos. Then, he ordered slaves to be taken from the people. Worst of all, the king and queen were like: “hey, can you not do the things you are doing? Because the Tainos are people too…” and Columbus said: “no.” and he kept killing and taking slaves.

King Ferdinand and Queen Isabella are most responsible for the death of the Tainos. They are most responsible because they made the Tainos work nonstop in the mines for gold. The Tainos Indians are the most responsible for the genocide of themselves. Finally when the Tainos did fight back it was against the men Columbus left behind the first time. That's why the Tainos Indians are the most responsible for their own genocide.

The System of Empire was responsible for the death of the Indians. It only saw white Christians as full humans, and every one else was below then.Gave people the right to kill because it valued property over people. This was the law and it gave them permission to kill, sure Columbus' men did the killing but this gave the permission to do it with no consequence. Some reasons why he is guilty is because if they didn't give him the amount of gold he wanted in a certain amount of time he would cut parts of there body off like there hands. Also he ordered the attacks and kidnappings of the Tainos. Then, he ordered slaves to be taken from the people. Also when Tainos wanted to leave and be let go, he refused.

Of course Queen Isabella and King Ferdinand funded everything and didn't do much about Columbus' cruelty and violence, but that doesn't necessarily mean that the blame all goes to them. Sure, a large portion of the blame does, but Columbus was the person who was physically present and ordered all of the torture. Though he didn't actually do any of the killing and torture himself, he ordered it all and any Spaniard who disobeyed would be punished as well. Columbus was the one who initially thought of enslaving the Tainos (correct me if I'm wrong), as he had written in his journal, and though he was mainly motivated by the King and Queen's greed, he chose to order the Spaniards to do a lot of horrible, violent things. The King and Queen didn't tell Columbus and his men to treat them that horribly, that was what Columbus chose to do.

I think it is the pope's fault because he was the one that told the King and queen in the first place.

Did u guys forget the system of empire? The system that was made for all of Europe? The system of empire told people that if you werent christian u werent a true human being which was Columbus and his mens excuse for torturing the Tainos. The system of empire was followed by all even the king and queen. If anybody didnt follow the system they would face consequences for example; If the king and queen didnt follow it people would rebel against them and they could potentially lose their position or wealth. If Columbus didnt follow it he would be going against his people and king and queens orders which would lead to his death, the same goes for his men. Also Columbus' men needed money and a job to provide food and money for their families.

The System of the empire caused the problem, I agree. If any other country following that system found with any other explorer, the same thing would most likely happen.

It was the society of the empire. Spain and the King and Queen wouldn't have done any of this if the society of Empires wasn't the way it was. The society was made in a way that to have power you must own lots of property and materials (like gold, jewels, spices, sugar, etc.). Spain was just the unlucky empire. If it was any other empire in Europe with any other explorer from that Region, the same thing would happen
